A paedophile has been jailed for five years after posting 200,000 sexual messages to children on the internet.
The horrifying figure was revealed by police after Jahangir Karim, 38, admitted pressuring a 15-year-old girl into having sex with him.
Father-of-two Karim pleaded guilty to six charges including grooming and three of penetrative sex with the teenager.
He also admitted attempting to incite children under 16 and under 13 over the internet to engage in sexual activity.
Detectives found 200,000 lines of communication between Karim and up to 25 children on social networking sites.
Judge John Neligan told Truro Crown Court in Cornwall that the five-year sentence was intended to send out a “message” that his sick behaviour was unacceptable.
He said: “The message must go out that using social networking internet sites to solicit young, vulnerable girls who need to be protected will not be tolerated.
“We have to discourage other men from using the internet to do so.”
The court heard how Karim’s victim, who cannot be named for legal reasons, started chatting with her abuser on Netlog in January of this year and continued on MSN.
Calling himself “Jai” he claimed to be 18 and from Taunton, Somerset, when he was in fact 38 and from Stockwell, south London.
Ramsay Quaife, prosecuting, told the hearing: “Their profile pages said what ages they were and the defendant’s said he was 18. [Hers] said she was 15.
“This defendant was 38 at the time, now 39.
“From early on, the conversation revolved around sex. He told her he wanted to have sex with her.”
Karim gave her his mobile phone number, which would later contribute to his downfall, and they spoke up to three times a day “mostly about sex”, according to Mr Quaife.
“He pressured her to meet up and eventually she agreed,” he said.
On February 29 Karim picked her up near her home in Helston, Cornwall, between 9pm and 9.30pm after she told her parents she was going to meet a friend.
In the school car park, she was nervous and “shaking” but he persuaded her into the back seat.
After having unprotected sex and committing other acts, he dropped her where they had met, suggesting they be “friends with benefits”.
But once home, at about 9.45pm, she broke down in tears and told her stepfather what had happened.
He sent a text message to Karim, who replied, “You must want to smash my face in”, the court heard.
Karim pleaded not guilty to the charges at the same court on August 17.
But he changed his pleas on October 17, the day his trial was due to start, after being overwhelmed by the evidence against him, including his history on the internet.
Michael Gomulka defending, said no sexual chat took place with children under 11 and his client leaded guilty on the basis that the sex with the girl was consensual.
He said Karim recognised his actions were the wrong way to deal with the trauma of losing his father in 2009.
A probation report said this caused a “physical distance between him and his wife”.
