Michael Douglas has announced that his battle with throat cancer is finally over.

Michael Douglas announces he has 'beat' throat cancer

The Hollywood Icon, 66, who is married to Welsh beauty Catherine Zeta-Jones, made the announcement during his first interview since beginning treatment.

In the interview with NBC’s Today Show, set to be broadcast in the US later today, he tells host Matt Lauer: “The odds are, with the tumour gone and what I know about this type of cancer, that I’ve got it beat.”

He added: “It has been a wild six-month ride.”

The Wall Street actor announced in August that he had been diagnosed with cancer after doctors discovered a tumour in his throat. He underwent eight weeks of  chemotherapy, which he completed in October.

During the interview he revealed that he lost over two stone during his ordeal, but has managed to regain 12 pounds by “eating like a pig!”

Michael stressed that he expects to live to a ripe old age just like his father, the actor Kirk Douglas, saying: “I’m fortunate I’ve got a mother who’s 88. Or she may be 87! My father’s 94. So I feel good about those genes.”

He also said that he took his children Dylan, ten, and seven-year-old Carys, along to some of his treatments.
