Fallen TV funnyman Justin Lee Collins was given six penalty points on his driving licence today after he admitted speeding through roadworks on a motorway.
Bearded Collins, 38, pleaded guilty via email to driving at 76mph in a 50mph zone at 11.12pm.
Magistrates in Bath, Somerset, ordered him to pay a fines and costs totalling £327 and imposed six penalty points on his licence.
Peter Norris, chairman of the bench, said: “For this offence, taking into account his guilty plea we fine him £266, order him to pay a £26 in victim surcharge and £35 costs.
“He will also received six penalty points.”
The court heard Collins, originally from Bristol but who now lives in Bermondsey, London, was caught speeding on the M5 between junctions 16 at Almondsbury and 17 at Cribbs Causeway on the outskirts of Bristol.
Average speed cameras picked up his Mini Cooper driving in the temporary speed zone at 26mph above the limit at 11.12pm on November 28 last year.
Collins, who has a clean license, pleaded guilty by email and the case was dealt with in his absence.
In an email to the court Collins said: “I did not receive a follow up letter, I filed in and returned the required notice form on two occasions.
“I sent the second form in after the first was incorrectly filled in.”
The charge comes after the former Friday Night Project host was found guilty of harassing his former partner, Anna Larke, in October 2012, at St Alban’s Crown, Hertfordshire.
Collins subjected the PR girl to sustained emotional and domestic abuse during their seven-month relationship, and made her write down in a Pukka pad all her previous sexual encounters regardless of how graphic.
