WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange arrived at Cambridge University today after students queued for hours to hear him speak publicly for the first time in months.
Controversial Assange, 39, is breaking a four-month silence by speaking at the Cambridge University Union Society, founded in 1815, about his life and career.
The whistleblower stepped out of a silver Corsa wearing an open-necked shirt and suit before he was welcomed by university dignitaries and entered the debating chamber.
More than 500 students queued throughout the afternoon to secure a seat at the speech, which Assange will deliver at around 5pm.
The address will be Assange’s first public appearance for four months after he was accused of sexually assaulting one woman and raping another.
Last month Belmarsh Magistrates’ Court, south-east London, ruled that Assange should be extradited to face charges in Sweden.
He has appealed against the decision through the High Court and is currently awaiting a date for his case to be heard.
Assange’s lawyers claim that the allegation is not rape as understood under European and English law.
Why was this not recorded? WTF!
He’s getting fat.
