Andrea Rossi is an Italian inventor and entrepreneur credited with the discovery of a new thermal power source that uses Low-Energy Nuclear Reaction (LENR) or cold fusion. Prior to Rossi’s discovery, there were only two categories of LENR that were being studied: the original cold fusion process for palladium to deuterium and a second process for nickel to hydrogen.
Andrea Rossi was part of a small number of researchers who continued working and experimenting in the field, discovering the Rossi Effect and creating the E-Cat or Energy Catalyser. In early 2019 it was announced that the EcatSK was available for industrial applications.
Low Energy Nuclear Reaction
LENR – low energy nuclear reactions – refers to the phenomenon of creating heat through applying external stimulus to certain metals that have absorbed either deuterium or hydrogen. The reaction that creates the heat takes place at a relatively low temperature and produces waste products that are not radioactive; there is either no production of strong radiation or it is locally absorbed. This process is known as cold fusion.
The Rossi Effect
Interest in LENR increased once again as Andrea Rossi and Sergio Focardi were able to publicise the results of their own experiments with cold fusion. Rossi’s E-Cat was publicly demonstrated, and third parties were able to use it to produce useful heat on at least ten occasions. The Coefficient of Performance (CoP) rating of the E-Cat as claimed by both Rossi and the third-party testers ranges from 6 to more than 50. This means the device is capable of producing up to 50 times the amount of energy that is put in to the system. The Rossi Effect uses a combination of lithium and hydrogen with a nickel catalyst of fine granularity.
Andrea Rossi communicates directly with the public and the scientific community through his blog www.rossilivecat.com, where he answers questions regarding the E-Cat and cold fusion and its potential uses once fully tested and commercialised. The blog also contains links to scientific publications produced by Rossi and further information about a number of scientific topics.
The E-Cat Energy Catalyser
The fuel and catalyst are placed in the E-Cat box in a thin layer, where there is a reactor core. This core is a small cylindrical rod with external dimensions of 5cm diameter and 20cm length. Cooling elements are connected directly to this reactor core in the form of wings. Cold water flows in and steam or hot water flows out. The size of the E-Cat is small enough to fit easily on a small table.
According to the press release for the 2019 EcatSK demonstration, kilowatts of energy are produced through the consumption of just a few grams of fuels that are abundant and inexpensive: nickel, hydrogen and lithium.
Nuclear fusion or cold fusion remains unproven at anything that resembles a commercial scale. However, the potential benefits are huge, including no greenhouse gases, very low fuel costs from a virtually limitless supply, no chain reaction, and little or no nuclear waste.
