Lady Gaga walked away with three awards at last night’s Grammys after living up to her reputation as the queen of quirk by arriving on the red carpet in a giant egg.
The singer, 24, nabbed the Best Pop Vocal Album, Best Female Pop Vocal Performance and Best Short Form Music gongs.
And in typical style she shocked onlookers by arriving encased within a giant egg, carried on a sedant chair by four members of her entourage.
One explained to host Ryan Seacrest: “She is in an embryonic state and won’t be born until her performance.”
She later hatched out of the huge glowing egg on stage before performing her latest single Born This Way.
Other winners included Jay-Z , whose duet with Alicia Keys, Empire State of Mind, won Best Rap Song, and John Legend and The Roots, whose joint album Wake Up! earnt them Best R’n’B Song and Best R’n’B album.
Canadian indie band Arcade Fire scooped Best Album for their record The Suburbs, and country outfit Lady Antebellum won the highly-coveted song and record of the year.
Eminem, who had been nominated for a staggering ten awards, walked away with just one win for Best Rap Performance.
