This was the moment the master of a hunt was dramatically hurled off his mount – and dumped in a muddy DITCH.

Mark Evans tumbled over the reins when his horse Bonnie pulled up at the last second during the Jersey Drag Hunt.

The veteran huntsman flew through the air and landed in the bottom of a four-foot deep hole.

He emerged unharmed but with his smart green livery splattered in mud.

Mr Evans was leading the hounds around the parish of St John on Wednesday afternoon when the mishap was captured on camera.

There are no foxes on the Channel Island of Jersey but participants follow a scent laid down by two riders who go ahead of the hunt through the fields.

Onlooker Ian Le Sueur said: “They came hacking across a field towards this ditch, which the hounds had no trouble with – but it obviously proved too much for Bonnie.

“Half way across she changed her mind without telling her rider, who was propelled over the top.

“Thankfully nothing more than pride was hurt. Mark extricated himself from the hole and he and Bonnie continued the hunt.”
