A deranged son who murdered his mother by beating her with a metal fireguard before slitting her throat was today jailed for life.
Josef Cupori, 24, brutally attacked his mum Anna Cuporiova, 43, before dumping her body in a wheelie bin outside their home.
Cupori flew into a violent rage on the afternoon of March 4 after his mum told him she was moving out of the flat they shared together.
He viciously punched her before bludgeoning her over the head with a fireguard because he did not want to look after himself.
After slitting her throat while she was unconscious, jobless Cupori put a bin bag over his mum’s head before rolling her body up in a rug and stuffing it in a wheelie bin.
Stafford Crown Court heard Cupori then returned to the lounge to clean up her blood before fleeing their home, in Elm Street, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffs., in her car.
After his brother Robin returned home to discover the body, police were called and Cupori was later arrested in Lancaster.
Cupori admitted the killing but denied murder on the grounds of diminished responsibility but was found guilty of murder following a two week trial.
He was caged for life and told he would serve a minimum of 20 years before being eligible for parole.
Speaking after the case, Detective Inspector Glyn Pattinson, who led the inquiry by Staffordshire Police’s Major Investigation Department, said: “This was a vicious, unprovoked attack on a defenceless woman who sadly lost her life.
“Cupori’s relationship with his mother had deteriorated but there was no prior warning he would kill her. He then attempted to hide her body in his bedroom, but was disturbed and fled the scene.
“This was an act of random violence which ended in tragedy. Our thoughts are with Ms Cuporiova’s family at this very difficult time.”
A statement released by Ms Cuporiova’s family, said: “The court case has been extremely stressful for the family.”
During the trial the jury was told Ms Cuporiova was planning to move out with her partner and daughter from their home leaving Cupori and his brother Robin to live on their own.
Andrew Lockhart QC, prosecuting, said: “The accused was very, very angry with his mother.
“She was looking to move out and set up home elsewhere, leaving him and his brother to fend for themselves.
“This would have involved the withdrawal of the care that might be expected of a mother, such as cooking, but more importantly these two brothers would have been expected to make enough money to survive.
“He found himself alone at the house when his mother came back from viewing a property where she might live.
“He chose to vent his anger on her.
“He struck her to the head many times with his fists, then with a metal fireguard, striking her again and again to the back of the head.
“From then, most likely when she was unconscious, he cut her throat with a knife and she bled to death.
“He then rolled his mother in a rug and dragged her from the lounge to his downstairs bedroom.
“There, he put a bin bag over her head and stuffed her in a wheelie bin.
“The overwhelming evidence is that she returned home elated that she was moving out, he didn’t like it, so he decided to attack her.”
