A third of Britons believe the Government should form a Men-in-Black-style special forces – to combat alien invasion.
Also, the shocking new study has revealed more people believe in aliens than God.
The survey, of more than a thousand Britons, found a fifth of the country think aliens have landed on Earth.
Britain has always been a hotbed of perceived alien activity, and Wiltshire is widely regarded as the crop-circle capital of the world, and sees hundreds of the mysterious shapes appear every summer.
Nick Pope, formerly of the now-defunct Ministry of Defence UFO Project said: “Just 20 years ago, religion was a huge part of life in the UK, and this shows just how much attitudes have changed.
“Belief in the alien phenomenon is now more widespread than ever, with many wondering how we and our governments would react to the news that aliens existed.”
Of the 1359 people asked, 52 per cent said they believed in extraterrestrial life, whereas only 44 per cent said they believed in God.
New computer game XCOM: Enemy Unknown, tasks the player with saving the world from an evil alien invasion.
Similar to Hollywood blockbuster Independence Day, the player will be forced to embrace alien technology to survive.
A spokesman for the game, who cryptically asked to be known as Mr Z, said: “While we haven’t been witness to first contact just yet – and have no knowledge as to whether alien life would ultimately be a threat to humanity, with XCOM: Enemy Unknown you get to lead the fight against an aggressive alien invasion.
“As with warfare experienced in real life, you’ll become attached to your soldiers, become loyal to the cause and strive to take huge strides in developing technology to counter the advancing threat.
“You’ll reverse-engineer alien technology to get the upper hand, and ultimately, save the world in its darkest hour.”
Amateur pilot Matt Williams enjoys flying above crop circles.
He said: “They could be man-made, they could be made by visitors. If the government knows there are aliens visiting our planet, then they should form a plan to defend us.
“However, if there is no evidence of alien encounters, then it would be a huge waste of money.”
