Green-fingered Brenda Padden couldn’t peel-ieve her eyes when she got back from holiday to find fruit had sprouted – on her BANANA plant.
Brenda returned from a two-week break in Turkey to find the plant had produced more than 20 of the tropical fruit.
The mother-of-two, from East Dulwich in London, bought the plant five years ago but said she never expected it to yield any bananas.
Brenda kept the plant potted for three years but it grew so large that she had to bed it in her front garden two years ago
The former care worker then found the 12ft plant covered with fruit when she arrived back in Britain last week.
Brenda said: “I got back from holiday and the plant was covered in bananas. It was unbelievable as it had never shown any signs of bearing fruit before.
“I bought it because just because I liked the look of the leaves, not because I ever thought it would ever grow me any bananas.
“It must be something to do with the lovely weather we’re having. I’m just waiting for them to ripen up a bit and then I’ll try one because they look beautiful in my garden.”
