This amazing footage shows the moment a man proposed to his sci-fi fan girlfriend 200 feet up in a helicopter and popped the question — in a CROP CIRCLE.
Varun Bhanot, 28, told his girlfriend Anisha Seth, 28, that they would be going up in a helicopter to celebrate HIS birthday – but instead had a surprise planned for her.
Anisha, who loves all things sci-fi and space related, got into the helicopter expecting to fly over the Cheshire countryside, near the Jodrell Bank Observatory, Cheshire.
The accountant had no idea that at 200ft there was a message for her in a cornfield – saying ‘Anisha, marry me?’.
Thoughtful Varun had spent nearly three months calling farmers asking if they could accomodate a crop circle on their land, and eventually found someone willing.
Even better, the field was close to the Lovell Telescope, at the Jodrell Bank Observatory, Cheshire, tying in with Alisha’s interest in the cosmos.
Varun said: “Alisha loves space so it was a great place to do it. It was also the only farm we could get to agree – I think they liked our story.
“I think because of the heatwave, a lot of farmers wanted to get the harvest in early. But we found people who were happy to wait until I’d created the crop circle.
“I came up with the idea, and wanted it to be really simple.”
Varun told Anisha they were going to Manchester to enjoy a spa day for his birthday – but they ended up going for a helicopter ride instead.
He said: “We ended up going to a helipad. I said I’d got a voucher for a helicopter experience. Luckily she loved it and thought it was a fun thing to do.”
Varun began to make a mid-air speech to his girlfriend of four years and told her to look out of the window, and presented her with an engagement ring.
Varun said: “I pulled the ring out and she said ‘yes’ right away. My brother and sister helped out with calling farms – we just worked our way through Yellow Pages.
“Alisha loves space, heights and exhilarating things. She was absolutely stunned.
“I think she thought I was just proposing when I started making the speech in the helicopter.”
Internet entrepreneur Arun then took Alisha for a picnic in the middle of the crop circle, after they landed.
Varun added: “I think the pilot said they had had a proposal on the helicopter before but he’d never seen anything like this.”
Anisha said: “It was absolutely shocking.
“I think I sort of knew it was coming – but that weekend I was so blindsided by it being his birthday. I genuinely had no idea, my guard was completely down.
“I thought we were going to a spa, and I thought it was a bit silly, but I didn’t say anything.
“I was so lucky as the bride-to-be with how involved his family were. He genuinely is a creative genius.
“It is so heartwarming for me to know there is such a loving family there.”
Varun’s sister and father were at the helipad coordinating the event from the sidelines – which Anisha was completely oblivious to.
She only found out about their involvement afterwards.
When the couple arrived back in Euston on the train, Anisha expected they would hail a cab back to east London – and was astonished when a Rolls Royce appeared.
It whisked the couple off to the Ritz where Varun’s family had arranged candles and roses, as well as a gallery of pictures.
Bride-to-be Anisha said: “I was just swept off my feet, I was so overwhelmed. It was like shell-shock. I love fields and farmland, so it was perfect.
“I feel like Varun listened to everything I ever said. All I can say is I felt like a queen.”
The couple have not yet set a date but plan to marry next year.
