A teenage farm worker died after his tractor overturned – trapping him in a pit of slurry.
Tragic Jordan Orriss, 16, was killed when he lost control of the agricultural vehicle on a farm in St Merryn near Padstow, Cornwall.
The tractor became submerged in the slurry and Jordan was trapped underneath and despite rescue efforts was pronounced dead at the scene.
Jordan, one of four youngsters who worked on the farm, died following the incident at 10am on Sunday.
More than 500 friends yesterday paid tribute to the popular schoolboy on Facebook and described him as a ”happy, funny character”.
Isabel Nicholls, 15, wrote: ”He had a heart of gold and was the type of person you could befriend easily – no questions asked.
”To think he had his whole life ahead of him and now we’ll have to continue without him.”
Lauren Dalley wrote: ”RIP Jordan, I’ll never forget you, that’s for sure. I was your best friend as you always said and I will miss you always.”
A spokesman for Devon and Cornwall Police said an investigation was ongoing but the incident is not being treated as suspicious.
He said: ”A 16-year-old farmhand was found deceased after the tractor he was driving toppled into a slurry pit, trapping him under the slurry.
”Efforts were made to rescue him but proved unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead at the scene. At this stage we are treating this as a tragic accident.”
Id just like to say, Jordan did not lose control of the tractor, the clutch broke and there was nothing that could save him then, that was not his fault the tractor should of had safety checks before, get your facts right before. He’s very missed in our family, non of us are the same.
