Police have dropped their investigation into one of Britain’s top players, who was arrested after a girl was sexually assaulted outside a nightclub.
Davis Cup player Dan Evans, 19, contacted police after they released a picture of three men they wanted to speak to as potential witnesses to the alleged attack.
But in a dramatic twist, Evans was arrested on May 29 at his home in Birmingham before eventually being released on bail.
The two other men in the photo have not been arrested.
The alleged victim and a friend had left the Club XL nightclub in Bath, Somerset, on March 19 and were talking with two men when one of them is said to have pushed her on to a discarded mattress and sexually assaulted her.
Evans fully co-operated with officers and told them he was not involved in the incident.
An Avon and Somerset police spokesman said: ”Cases are never closed but until there is new evidence or information no further action will be taken.
”I would urge anyone with information to come forward.”
The tennis player is ranked 344th in the world and was previously Britain’s No.3 but has since slipped to seventh in the UK.
