A canny thief is being hunted by police for stealing a crate of Lucozade from a shop without actually setting foot in the store – by riding a HOVERBOARD.

The brazen crook rolled into the Co-op branch riding the fad device, also known as a Swegway, before heading down the aisles and picking up a crate of orange-flavoured energy drink.

Instead of then heading to the till, the lazy thief casually rolled out of the door of the store, in Mitcham, south west London, without paying.

The bizarre incident, which happened on Sunday night, was caught on the store’s CCTV camera – and appeared to show the rider not setting foot inside the shop at all.
SWNS_HOVER_THEFT_08A Met Police spokesperson said: “Police were called on Sunday, 6 September to a report of a man who had entered the Co-op supermarket on Streatham Road, Mitcham on a self-balancing board.

“He entered the store at 21:43 hours and took a crate of Lucozade from the drinks aisle, making off without making payment.”

They added: “We have not dealt with many thefts from shops where the thief has made off on a hoverboard.”

The thief, who appears to be in his mid- 20s, has been described as a black man wearing a grey tracksuit top and bottoms.

Police say the two other men seen in the CCTV footage are members of the public and not the lazy thief’s accomplices.
