A plane was forced to make a dramatic emergency landing just minutes after take-off today when a warning light started flashing in the cockpit.
The KLM flight from Norwich to Amsterdam had to turn around after a problem was detected with the “undercarriage door”.
Emergency services were called to the airport and the A140 was closed to traffic as the airport was temporarily shut down.
The 71 passengers on the flight were safely removed from the plane after the aircraft circled the airport to burn off fuel before landing.
Andrew Bell, Norwich International Airport’s chief executive, said: “The KLM flight to Amsterdam took over just after 6.30am.
“The captain indicated a warning light in the cockpit, in the undercarriage. As part of our airport policy, we automatically initiated our integrated response plan, which we did.
“All emergency services from the local area were called, and they arrived at about 7.05am. The aircraft circled to burn off fuel, and landed safely at 7.17am.
“The passengers were disembarked safely and will be booked on other flights to Amsterdam, either from Norwich or other airports.”
The airport was reopened at 7.34am.
