The video for X Factor 2010 winner Matt Cardle’s debut single has been launched with the singer heading for Christmas number one.
‘When We Collide’, a cover of the Biffy Clyro single ‘Many of Horror’, sold more than 100,000 copies in the first 24 hours of its release following Cardle’s victory on Sunday night’s X Factor.
This puts the 27-year-old in pole position for the top spot this Sunday – beating anti-X Factor project ‘Cage Against The Machine’ and surf rock hit ‘Bird is the Word’.
The three minute 45 second clip shows Cardle’s X Factor journey from his audition to the moment he was crowned winner, intertwined with the ’emotional’ moments accustomed to winners of the reality show’s debut video.
Despite Cardle now a shoe-in for the top spot, his Buffy Clyro cover has been criticised by fans of the Scottish band.
Within seconds of the song choice being revealed on Sunday a Facebook page was set up campaigning for the original version to be Christmas number one instead while Twitter was awash with comments from fans angry at the ban for ‘selling out’.
But Biffy Clyro frontman Simon Neil defended the decision, telling the Daily Record: “I don’t think The X Factor is a threat to ‘real’ music at all. It’s just entertainment.
“It’s just what The A-Team was in 1986. And Simon Cowell isn’t the devil, he’s just someone who wants to make s***loads of money, and fair play to him.”
