Three abandoned kittens taken into to an animal shelter at just a day old have found an unlikely surrogate mother – a pug.
The day-old trio – named Conker, Pickle and Pumpkin – were brought into Battersea Dogs & Cats Home in south London.
Behaviourist Louise Taylor took the cats home and her pug, Peppa, decided to take full responsibility for them herself and now cares for them in her own bed.
Louise said: “We knew Peppa had been a mother before – and she’s a natural.
“She won’t let Conker, Pickle and Pumpkin out of her sight and is constantly washing them and making sure they’re all clean.
“It’s been lovely to see the four of them together, especially knowing these three kittens had such an unlucky start in life.”
Peppa was also found as a stray and was taken into the shelter’s care in April, when staff feared she had been used for backstreet breeding.
Her body showed the signs of bearing multiple litters and she had mastitis, an infection in her mammary glands.Louise fostered the pug while she recovered from surgery and has since adopted Peppa and the kittens.
Pepper showers the super cute kittens with hugs and kisses, and every night they all go to sleep on the same bed, at Louise’s home in Woking, Surrey.
