Neighbours of Zara Phillips and Mike Tindall today welcomed news of their engagement.
Zara, 29, and Tindall, 32, live in an £800,000 regency town house in Cheltenham, Glos., which they bought last year.
Retired accountant Jessica Foreman-Davies, 62, said she was delighted for Zara.
She said: ”She’s a truly lovely girl who works incredibly hard and he compliments her perfectly.
”Cheltenham and the people I know are really glad to have them here.
”I think we’ve got another generation of royals now we’re going to be so proud of. We wish them every happiness.”
Kate Moss, 38, a teacher from Cheltenham also lives just minutes down the road.
She said: ”It’s lovely news, I think any engagement is.
”They keep a pretty low profile here and it’s some great positive news ahead of Christmas.
”They’ve been together quite a while so it’s excellent we’ve got another royal wedding to look forward to.
”There’s no anti-royal sentiment around here, people say they are always smiling and happy to say hi when they’re out and about.”
Nurse Helen Kimpton, 55, who lives just a few yards from their three-story house, said it was great news for the couple.
She said: ”I watched Zara play hockey a few years ago locally, she seems a very friendly girl.
”He plays for Gloucester too and people have really got time for them here, they’re a lovely couple. Good luck to them.”
Phillips and Mr Tindall were not available for comment at home.
Two vehicles, a black Range Rover Sport and black Freelander were in the driveway but staff said they were not at the address.
