X Factor boy band One Direction voiced their anger on Twitter last night after Aiden Grimshaw’s shock eviction kept Katie Waissel in the show.
Judges Simon Cowell, Cheryl Cole, Dannii Minogue and Louis Walsh were split 50/50 on who to evict – meaning the results went to ‘deadlock’ where the decision falls back to the public vote.
Shock ran out in the studio as it was revealed former bookie’s favourite Aiden, 18, had pulled fewer votes than unpopular Katie, 24.
Members of boy band One Direction later expressed their devastation at Aiden’s departure via their Twitter accounts.
Louis Tomlinson wrote: “Not only was he one of my best friends, he was one of the best singers in the competition, yet people who can’t sing a note in tune are still here. Wow.”
Liam Payne added: “Aiden didn’t deserve that.”
Meanwhile his mentor, Dannii Minogue, tweeted: “My utmost respect to Aiden. I have loved working with him on X Factor. TeamMinogue will miss him and I wish him the VERY BEST! Dx”
It was the fourth time Katie had appeared in the bottom two after causing controversy when she was saved over TreyC Cohen last week.
Katie chose Christina Aguilera’s Save Me From Myself for the sing-off before the judges while Aiden chose Don’t Dream It’s Over by Crowded House.
Simon Cowell chose to save Katie along with her mentor Cheryl, while Louis Walsh sided with Dannii and voted to save Aiden.
Katie clearly believed she was for the chop as the results turned to deadlock, and was visibly shocked as Aiden’s name was called out.
After learning his fate Aiden remarked: “You win some, you lose some.”
When asked by host Dermot O’Leary what he would do next, he replied: “Have a beer.”
Yesterday’s results show also saw the return of Take That as a five-piece with Robbie Williams.
It was the first time the reunited boy band had performed together since Robbie quit the line-up 15 years ago.
The boys performed new single The Flood and looked happy to be back together on stage.
