This video shows the terrifying moment a DOOR flies off a moving car into the path of fellow motorists.
A shocked couple captured the footage on a dashcam as the wooden door flew straight into oncoming traffic on a busy dual carriageway.
Kelly McIntosh, 34, was in the passenger as her partner was driving along the A380 near Newton Abbot, Devon, behind a white Volkswagen Golf.
In the video, the Golf can be seen overtaking many cars and travelling at speed, despite having something clearly strapped to the roof.
Then suddenly the car slows, just as a wooden door is ripped from the roof and flies into oncoming traffic as Kelly’s partner takes evasive action to avoid the debris.
Kelly, a mother of two and full time carer from Exeter, Devon, has shared the video online to raise awareness of issues like this, and believes that whoever was driving the car “could have killed people”.
Immediately after the incident at 10.40am on Thursday, the Golf then pulls over in the fast lane, creating a further hazard.
Kelly said: “Do you know when you get that feeling that something bad is going to happen?
“We could see that the door was loosely tied down with one blue bungee chord and we saw it go into the road.
“That is when the door flew off, over the van, and into the river. Part of the roof rack also went into the road and we had to avoid it.
“That van driver is the luckiest person on the planet. We were in absolute fear and looked behind us expecting to see other cars crashing.
“I could see the strap flapping and I knew something bad was going to happen.
“Then it all happened so quickly. I had visions of it flying through our windscreen like in Final Destination.”
According to the couple, the door was made of wood and had glass panels.
Miss McIntosh added: “I have never seen anything like it.”
