The victim of a millionaire dubbed ”Britain’s worst paedophille” says he hasn’t been paid the compensation he won – and fears he never will following the attacker’s death.
Dad-of-six Ray Zolla was repeatedly raped by William Goad – who at one point had a fortune of £25million.
Woad abused around 3,500 boys in the 1970s including Ray who later sued him for £110,000 – still the only of his victims ever awarded a pay-out.
Ray, of Newquay, Cornwall, was awarded the cash in 2010 but says he has never seen a penny.
Goad, of Plymouth, Devon, died in prison on Saturday aged 68 and because he had managed to file for bankruptcy Ray believes he will never get his compensation.
But Ray says he’s ”jubilant” he’s dead and has also urged all victims of Jimmy Savile to come forward and report the abuse to police.
He said: “The ultimate prize is that he’s died behind bars. He won’t be able to get out into the community again and cause distress to people.
“For me, hearing that Goad died behind bars has made speaking out worth it. It’s not about the money – I’m jubilant.
“Soon after I was successful in winning the compensation he filed for bankruptcy. I think he was slowly pooling his money off to various places.
“He sold his property and everything that could have been used to compensate his victims.”
He added: “I’d say to Savile’s victims: Keep going all the way.
“Even though he’s dead you can still gain a sense of closure because your voice has been heard and people will believe you.”
Woad built his fortune through discount shops, property and an open-market – where Ray was working as a young stall employee.
Ray was raped by Goad between the ages of 12 and 15, along with thousands of other boys.
Goad once boasted of abusing 142 youngsters in a year and was jailed for life in 2004 for offences dating back over 35 years.
Ray – who has waived his right to anonymity – said: ”My first experience was when he took me away on a business trip to go and buy stock for his market stalls.
“I went to Manchester with him and he abused me while we were away. He was so twisted and nasty that he got his victims to procure other victims for him.
“Then he would threaten violence if we ever told anyone – threatening to hit our family or break our legs.
“Or he would threaten to call the police to say we had stolen something from the stalls.
“He was a predator and a bully – a bit like The Penguin which Danny DeVito played in Batman Returns. He was fat, smelly, filthy, quite grotesque.”
A report into Goad’s finances a few years ago found at one point he was worth as much as £25 million but that had fallen to £3million.
Goad was convicted of 14 sex offences and two indecent assaults but never admitted abusing Mr Zolla.
That meant Ray had to pursue his attacker through the civil courts and was eventually awarded £110,000.
Ray, who still suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder, says he is now waiting to hear back from solicitors about if he will ever get his money from Goad’s estate.
He said: “The reason why the amount awarded was so high was that Goad was still in denial.
“At one point, he wanted to represent himself in the case which meant he would have been able to cross-examine me.
“Thankfully the Attorney General stepped in and a barrister was appointed. His actions just showed how unrepentant he was.”
A Prison Service spokeswoman confirmed that Goad died in jail on the Isle of Wight on Saturday.
She said: “HMP Albany prisoner, William Goad, was pronounced dead at twenty minutes past midnight on October 20. He is believed to have died from natural causes.
“As with all deaths in custody, the Independent Prisons and Probation Ombudsman will conduct an investigation.”
