A romantic artist got engaged to his girlfriend after he wrote his proposal on a wall – in GRAFFITI
Talented Stuart Barrie, 37, sprayed the message for his partner of four years Lucy Rutherford, 33, on a wall near their home.
Professional graffiti artist Stuart spent seven hours painting the elabrate proposal on the wall in Exeter, Devon.
He led Lucy, eyes closed, to a local youth centre where he had sprayed ”Will you marry me?” in 3ft high letters.
Stunned Lucy accepted the proposal and then sprayed the word ”yes” underneath to complete Stuart’s surprise mural.
Stuart said he wanted to pop the question in a way his girlfriend would never expect.
He said: ”I wanted to do something different. Something bigger than most proposals, something unexpected, but in a good way.
”Lucy was out with a friend and I kept looking over my shoulder to make sure she hadn’t decided to drive down this way.
”I really didn’t want her to see it before it was finished or I would have had to tell her to come back in two hours and act surprised.
”I think it took her a minute to read it, and then re-read it. After a lot of shaking, she said ‘yes’.
”I’m very happy. It was worth all the effort. I even had a couple of yeses from people that I don’t even know.”
Lucy said she had been completely unaware that Stuart had been planning the mural.
She added: ”It was a complete shock – I didn’t have a clue. It’s very romantic and lovely.
”He said one day that I would be surprised when it happened and I am. I think I’ve got mouth-ache from smiling so much.”
