A cheeky schoolgirl who sent a letter to the Queen complaining that the Royal Wedding would clash with her grandfather’s birthday was shocked – when she received a REPLY.
Nine-year-old Bowen Pella-McDyre told the Queen she was ”not amused” that William and Kate’s wedding would ”hog all the limelight” from her granddad’s 78th birthday on the same day.
She wrote to Her Majesty on a whim but was stunned to receive a personal reply from the Queen’s lady-in-waiting, stamped with the official Buckingham Palace emblem.
The letter said: ”The Queen thought it very kind of you to tell her about yourself and your family.
”Her Majesty was interested to learn that your grandfather will celebrate his birthday on 29th April, the day when Prince William and Miss Catherine Middleton are to be married.”
Bowen, who grew up on Spain’s Costa Del Sol before moving to Leamington Spa, Warks., said: ”I just thought it would be a bit different to write to the Queen.
”I had no idea what it would feel like to get a letter from her.
”It took quite a while and I had given up hope of getting a reply.
”When it popped through the door I was just talking to my mum at the time, saying I was not going to get a response. I was really happy.”
Granddad Ray McDyre, 77, who lives in Coventry, joked: ”I only get one chance to have my 78th birthday. They can get married whenever they want.
”And I do like a bit of fuss on my birthday – they are hogging the limelight.
”When Bowen told me about the letter she said ‘I’ve made you famous, granddad’. I was delighted, it was nice to be recognised at last.”
