Houston is a thriving city that’s been becoming more and more family-friendly over recent years. As the fourth largest city in the country, it expands and becomes more welcoming to everyone.
Nevertheless, many families are unsure if there’s a space for them within this city.
If you’re in one of those who are interested in finding space for yourself and those you love, these are the best neighbourhoods to consider in the city.
Houston Heights
Average home price: $556,250
This neighborhood in Houston offers the most middling price range but has a lot going for it. The homes here are usually between two to three bedrooms, and the neighbourhoods are generally quiet and walkable. But, of course, there is some noise from the nearby highways. Still, naturally, this is a fantastic place to live for either a family who’s working to afford a better area or a couple who wants to start raising a family together.
Montrose
Average home price: $665,000
Montrose is one of the first neighbourhoods locals will talk about when bringing up Houston. This area has more bars, nightlife, and delicious restaurants than any other area with a younger attitude. Still slightly more expensive than the city average, this area isn’t extremely walkable. There are multiple great schools nearby, though, which could give you a chance to enjoy furthering your education or offering an outstanding education for your children.
Midtown Houston
Average home price: $445,000
As the least expensive neighbourhood on this list, Midtown has a lot riding on its shoulders. This area is a good mixture of apartments and homes that allows it to feel residential yet lively. The local businesses offer everything from incredible shopping to some of the best restaurants in the city. Many of the streets are walkable, but if you choose to rent in one of the apartment complexes, you should seek out a gated one to have that walkable experience.
Rice and the Museum District
Average home price: $657,000
As the label ‘museum district’ should tell you: the Rice area is a fantastic area to raise kids if you want them to be inspired to learn as they grow. The homes here are slightly more expensive than the city’s average, yet each has nice plots of land and space. In addition, most neighbourhoods are walkable in this area, so if you’re looking at houses for rent in Houston, TX, this is a great place to start.
West University
Average home price: $1,345,000
Although this neighbourhood is the most expensive on the list, many perks come with that price. Not only is every street in this area extremely walkable, but there’s plenty of nearby restaurants and businesses where you can enjoy a great time and then make it back home without having to traverse the entire city.
Crime rates are lower here, and there are enough local amenities that your family could stay in this area without ever having to leave. But, unfortunately, some find it too homogenous, which could mean it’s not for everyone!
