A 17-year-old boy was fighting for his life tonight after he was stabbed at college in front of horrified pupils.
The teenager was rushed to hospital after he suffered a serious knife injury at Bournville College, Birmingham, at 1.30pm.
Emergency services rushed to the college, which is based in the Longbridge area of the city, and the lad was taken to hospital with “life threatening injuries”.
Police arrested one man in connection with the assault at around 2.25pm.
Detective Inspector Justin Spanner, from West Midlands Police CID, said: “We are in the very early stages of this investigation and are still speaking to witnesses.
“I want to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time of the assault at around 1.30pm today and who has any information about what exactly happened.”
A college security guard, who did not want to be named, said: “There was a bit of an altercation on the campus and a person was stabbed following what looked to be a heated argument. I couldn’t make out what it was over though.”
Student Jasbir Ali, 19, added: “It’s a nice area – Cadburys World is just down the road, you certainly don’t expect this to happen.
“I don’t feel safe round here anymore. It’s very frightening. It all kicked off and there were police everywhere.”
A large number of officers remained at the scene yesterday afternoon to reassure students and local residents.
A spokesperson for Bournville College said: “Police were called to the scene and as the investigation continues, more details will follow in due course. But at the moment we can’t say any more than that.”
