A teenage tearaway has pleaded guilty to a number of horrifying break-ins where he vandalised the houses and even killed a pet by cooking it in the microwave.
The 16-year-old delinquent smashed mirrors, poured paint over furniture, left excrement on the floor and even stole a 32-inch widescreen TV while the 64-year-old resident slept in a room next door.
But the most disturbing crime committed by the yob in Ottawa, Canada, was when he killed a family’s pet gecko by placing it in a microwave.
Victim Anna Fanscali told The Ottawa Citizen: “One of the police officers who came to take the fingerprints told me he’s never seen a break-in this bad.
“The house was just destroyed. I understand if someone wants to steal, but you don’t need to wreck someone’s home. This was beyond a break-in.”
Miss Fanscali, a single mother who works with developmentally disabled, says the damage to her house will total more than £17,000.
Police matched the teen’s fingerprints to those left on a beer bottle at one address while prints were also found on a sliding window at the house where the gecko was killed.
The youth, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has been in jail since the crimes in April and will be sentenced on August 21 by the courts in Ontario, Canada.
A second teen has pleaded guilty to his involvement in the break-ins but denied killing the gecko.
