Jennifer Barnett, known as Jen, died five months ago after being diagnosed with the aggressive cancer mesothelioma which affects the lining of the lungs, leaving her husband Nigel and the rest of the family devastated. She was 60. At her inquest in January Gloucestershire coroner Katy Skerrett recorded a verdict of death as a result of industrial disease. Jen taught at the Stroud school between 1980 and 1997, where she was known as Miss Shonk, and rose to become head of art before she left to have her fourth child at 42.
