The age-old rumour that football fans in Manchester support City and NOT United is untrue, a new study has revealed.
Researchers polled almost 500 fans who live in the Greater Manchester area – and more than three quarters follow the Red Devils.
In fact only around one in four Manchester-based football fans support the nouveau rich Eastlands outfit.
But the report did discover City fans are more like to go to games while United supporters are couch potato fans who prefer to watch games on television.
To counteract that United fans spend more money on club merchandise than fans of their neighbours from the other side of town.
The study also found City have picked up a string of new fans over the last 12 months since they were handed billions by their Arab oil sheik owner.
The myth was debunked in a survey by OnePoll carried out between March 16th and 17th.
Yesterday a spokesman said: ”We were fully expecting the survey to back up the myth, but it seems the allegation was probably based on nothing but jealousy of United’s achievements and the fact that United do have a worldwide fan base.”
What do this really tell us? Basing your conclusions on a poll of 500 fans is hardly comprehensive. A waste of time.

Polling 500 fans in the Greater Manchester area?… As well as Manchester, Greater Manchester encompasses Bolton, Bury, Oldham, Rochdale, Stockport, Wigan and Salford.
Living in any one of these areas does NOT make you a Manchester resident.
Try polling a larger number of people (instead of a paltry 500) living in MANCHESTER and then let us know your results.
i think the quote at the end shows a little bias

yea right no bias there then lol
