The bumper crop at Cheddar Valley Strawberries, Draycott, Somerset. See SWNS story SWBERRY; Wimbledon fans are in for a treat, after the miserable British Spring has produced a crop of strawberries being touted as the tastiest EVER. Cold and wet weather at the start of the year meant the beloved red berries have grown much slower, leading to more succulent, juicy fruit than ever before which are 50 per cent sweeter than normal. The first harvest of the season was put back more than two and a half weeks due to the dodgy weather, meaning the quintessentially British fruit has been given more time to grow and develop flavour. Expert strawberry farmer Andrew Seager has been growing them for more than 50 years at his farm in the Cheddar valley in Somerset.
