Four school children were injured when the roof of their bus was sliced off by a mechanical hedge trimmer.

The pupils were on the top level of the double decker when it collided with a hedge trimming vehicle in Colchester, Essex, today.

Three paramedics cars and two ambulances were called to Alresford Road in Wivenhoe, near Colchester, Essex, at 8.22am.

The East of England Ambulance Service said four of the 45 children sustained slight injuries from the incident, but hospital treatment was not required.

A replacement bus arrived for the pupils while the injured schoolchildren were called to come and collect them.

Trevor Redburn, assistant general manager in North Essex, who attended the scene, said: “We arrived within five minutes and it was quite a scary looking scene.

“We counted 45 children who were all shocked and confused.

“I want to commend our team for the work they did during this phase in quickly identifying the injuries and providing everyone with a full assessment.”
