This is the dramatic moment a young motorcyclist suffered devastating injuries when he bounces off the front windscreen of a car in a head-on collision.
The unnamed 27-year-old rider can be seen swerving onto the wrong side of the road before colliding with the Audi A6.
He was rushed to hospital with a severe brain injury and is still being treated more than six months after the horror smash on September 8 last year.
The shocking incident just before 9pm along Jubilee Way on the outskirts of Tewkesbury, Glos., was captured on the driver’s dashcam.
The three-minute clip shows the motorcyclist smash into the front windscreen of the Audi A6 causing it to shatter – but the driver walked away unhurt.
Three other motorcyclists ride past the scene of the crash before a shaken male in a white top can be seen making a phone call – presumably to emergency services.
Markerstudy yesterday (thurs) released the footage to promote the importance of in-vehicle CCTV technology in proving liability.
Gloucestershire police is not planning to take legal action against anyone as a result of the collision.
While the cause of the crash is uncertain, road safety campaigners have urged all motorists to take care.
Councillor Nigel Moor, Gloucestershire County Council’s cabinet member responsible for road safety, said: “Whether you’re a rider or driver, sharing the roads with responsibility for others is the message from our Road Safety Partnership.
“If riders and drivers want to improve their riding and reduce their risk they should keep-it-REAL – Read the road, Expect others to make mistakes, Anticipate the dangers and act in good time and stay Legal and ride or drive within the rules.”
The message was repeated by the boss of the Autospares shop in Tewkesbury, Mark Rose.
He rode for 31 years before giving up after an accident in which he broke his back last summer.
Although he has recovered enough to walk again and return to work, he has vowed never to ride a motorcycle again because he wants to put his family first.
He said: “I always rode defensively. Always be on the look-out, whether it’s for cars, lorries, vans.
“But also be aware of the road surface – diesel on the road can be like riding on ice.
“And pot holes can chuck you into a speed wobble.”
Gloucestershire’s police and crime commissioner, Martin Surl, said: “Motorcyclists are extremely vulnerable on the roads, and more must be done to increase awareness of the dangers they face.
“Crashes and casualties cause immeasurable loss and trauma for the victims, their families and friends, so it’s incredibly important that we promote and deliver effective road safety.
“I was once a keen motorcyclist but not a very good one. I loved my bike but initially underestimated the dangers and overestimated my ability – not a good mix.
“My Safe and Social Driving priority extends to those who ride motorbikes. I want everyone in our county to be able to move around our communities in safety and with as much ease and convenience as possible.
“Although we are privileged to live in a rural county, we must acknowledge the higher road safety risk that exists – shockingly 60 per cent of all road fatalities occur on rural roads.
“Everyone – whether on foot, bicycle, horse, motorcycle or car – must be able to share our roads in safety.”
