Schoolgirl pictured photographing Prince William and Harry relives the day she became internet sensation

The delighted school girl who became an internet sensation when she was snapped jumping with glee after she photographed Princes Wills and Harry was revealed today.

Andrea Rubio, 14, literally bumped into the accommodating princes as she mingled with the crowd at a charity polo match and seized the moment to ask them for a photograph.

But, after grabbing the memento, it was Andrea who found herself the centre of attention when a photographer captured her triumphant moment and evident delight.

The picture appeared in many of the national newspapers the next day and prompted a surge in text messages to the teen, who was initially very confused.

“Everyone at school kept asking me if I was wearing Burberry Wellies and purple jacket at the polo,” she said.

“When I asked them why they told me I was in a national newspaper.”

Andrea, a year nine student at £9,655-a-term Westonbirt School, went to see the charity polo match at Beaufort Polo Club, near Tetbury, Glos.

“I knew Princes Harry and William were going to be there but I never thought I would get near them, let alone speak to them,” said Andrea.

As the royal brothers were walking off the field towards the changing room, Andrea seized her moment and ran out in front of the pair.

“I asked them ‘Please may I take your picture’ and they both laughed and said ‘yes’. I couldn’t believe it,” she said.

“I think I may have shouted after because I was so happy.”

Andrea, who is from Guadalajara, Mexico, has spent the past year at Westonbirt School, Glos., to improve her English.

She has sent the photo to her friends and family at home.

“When my mum found out what had happened she said she was glad that I had been polite and asked the princes if I could take a photo,” she added.

But it was not the first time Andrea has snapped a celebrity.

She has photographed Katy Perry and will.i.am from the Black-Eyed Peas. But none of them come close in status to the royal brothers.

Andrea added: “I am so excited to be photographed with Prince William and Prince Harry.

“I never imagined all this would happen just because I took a photo. Prince Harry is my favourite – I think he is really hot.”
