A schoolgirl is heartbroken after her pet rabbit died of a HEART ATTACK from the stress of their home being burgled.
The 11-year-old was at a sleepover and her older sister and mother were both out when thieves raided the family home and stole their Christmas presents.
She was devastated when she returned home to find George the rabbit had been let out of his cage and was covered in glass.
The next day poor George, who was only 18-weeks old, suddenly went floppy and vets said he had suffered a fatal heart attack.
Essex Police are hunting the sick crooks who broke into the flat in Southend, Essex, on November 29.
The mother-of-two, who does not want to be named for fear of reprisals, said: “It’s disgusting and twisted.
“My daughter is absolutely heartbroken about her rabbit. We’d only had him seven weeks.”
The 31-year-old added: “As I buy presents, I wrap them and put them under the tree as there’s nowhere to hide them in the flat.
“I’ve saved up for these presents, I can’t afford more, and I’ve even had to glue my tree back together as I can’t afford another.”
An Essex Police spokeswoman said: “It is thought that the rabbit may have died from the shock.
“The stolen items were a grey Everlast hooded top, light grey and white Nike Air Max trainers with a pink tick, size 5 1/2, and two board games.
“The burglary took place around 9pm and there were a large group of young people in the area.”
