A romantic boyfriend took his girlfriend shopping before shocking her with a flashmob wedding PROPOSAL.
Matthew Brookes, 28, planned a secret dance routine for weeks before taking Roxanne Gyles, 28, on a day out at her favourite mall.
Roxanne was baffled when a picture of her and Matthew suddenly appeared on the mall’s big screen and Bruno Mars’ hit ‘I Wanna Marry You’ suddenly played out.
The couple were handed champagne as six professional dancers came out from the crowd and performed an intricate routine at Highcross shopping centre in Leicester.
Heartwarming footage shows the moment Matthew joins in, dancing directly in front of Roxanne before running through a human tunnel and getting on one knee.
The 4.11-minute clip was uploaded on Friday (14/1) and has already been view over 40,000 times online.
Sales worker Matthew, of Thurmaston, Leics., said: “I wanted to do it big and over the top.
“But I needed somewhere where I could persuade her to go but it would still be a surprise.
“I called the Highcross and they were more than happy to help.
“It took about four weeks to practice, learning my routine was the hardest part.
“My friend runs a youth group and he recommended I speak to ER Dance in Braunstone, who said why not try a flash mob.
“I had to be a bit devious and she thought we were just going shopping.
“When we got into the square she said: “Why are we on the screen?”
“Roxanne didn’t twig what was going on until half way through the song, but she said ‘yes’ straight away.
“I am a pretty confident guy, but I was shaking because I was nervous. It all went perfectly though.
“Afterwards I had all these strangers coming up to me, saying they broke down in tears because it was so emotional.
“Roxanne was over the moon, she was so happy.
“We have been together for three years and we are going to start trying for a baby this year. It seemed like the right time.
“People keep telling me I have set the bar pretty high with the proposal so there will have to be something really special for the wedding. I’ll have to get planning.”
Matthew and Roxanne, a cake decorator, plan to marry in the summer of 2019.
Roxanne said she was stunned by the flashmob proposal, which took place on December 30.
She said: “I don’t know what he’s got planned for the wedding, but so long as I don’t have to dance then that’s fine.
“I was so shocked, I didn’t expect it at all. I saw myself on the big screen, but for some reason I thought it was normal.
“It was only when the music came on I started to twig what was going on and realised I had been a bit slow.
“Then it really was amazing. I really wasn’t surprised when Matthew joined in, he’s like that.
“I was overwhelmed, the whole thing was such a blur. I think without the video I would have forgotten a lot of it because I was just in shock.”
