Chronicles of Narnia Voyage of the Dawntreader premiere brings rare movie attendance by the Queen

Matt Cardle, Rebecca Ferguson and boyband One Direction, who have all been voted through to a place in this Saturday’s X Factor semi-finals, braved the snow to check out the latest instalment in the Narnia franchise.

Last year’s winner Joe Mcelderry, who sings on the film’s soundtrack, was also in the audience and very excited to meet the royal family.

The Queen and Prince Philip made a special appearance as The Voyage Of The Dawn Treader had been chosen for the annual royal performance, the only time Her Majesty ever visits the cinema.

It is the main fundraising event for the Cinema and Television Benevolent Fund (CBFT), of which The Queen is patron.

The charity supports film and TV employees and their families in times of hardship.

Cast and crew from the film, which opens at cinemas nationwide on 9 December, lined up to meet The Queen and Prince Philip afterwards.

The Voyage Of The Dawn treader stars Simon Pegg Liam Neeson, and the stars of the original film Anna Popplewell, Georgie Henley, Skandar Keynes and William Moseley, who play the Pensive children.

It took 21 weeks and $2.7 million (£1.7 million) to build a life-size model of the famous ship.

Director Michael Apted said of the royal premiere: “I’m only sitting two seats away from [The Queen] so I hope she likes it. I think she will.

“I think it’s for everybody. It’s a very emotional film and I think people like that. I’m sure she’ll be kind to it anyway.”
