A punter was so confident he was going to scoop more than £100,000 on a football bet he bought a new car a week BEFORE his wager came in.
Lucky George Wood, 22, won the £116,000 jackpot from the £5 stake he placed on a 10-game accumulator at a bookies on September 28.
He needed all matches to go the way which he predicted over the space of five weeks in order to land the huge windfall.
And seven days before his win George was so convinced his bet would come in that he splashed out £17,000 on a new Renault Regane – with the registration B3 IIEVE .
And on Saturday (17/10) his victory was confirmed when Manchester City beat Bournemouth 5-1.
Today (Tue) George, from Waltham-on-the Wolds, Leics., said: “I just knew I was going to win.
“I had that gut feeling, so I went ahead and ordered the new car with that private plate spelling believe because I knew it was going to happen.
“There was something different with this accumulator, everything kept going right.
“But I’m never doing it again over a few weeks, that was a killer waiting for Man City to win.
“I thought Celtic or PSG might let me down, but once they were through I knew it was my time.
“The ninth game was over on October 4 and I had to wait until October 17 for the final game.
“But I must admit I was sweating a bit on Saturday during the game. When the final whistle went I was in shock.
“I didn’t get to sleep until 4am, it’s crazy but I’m over the moon.”
The Leicester City fan has recently been diagnosed with MS, and, after quitting his job as a stonemason, he says the win couldn’t have come at a better time.
The dad-of-one added: “I’m putting the money to good use by paying off my mum’s debts, buying a house and taking my three-year-old son Charlie to Disneyland in Florida.
“Next year I aim to head off on a luxury holiday to Mexico. I plan to set up my own business and invest in the stock market too.”
George has now hedged his bets even further and put #1,000 on another 10-game accumulator which could land him £200,000.
Jessica Bridge, from Ladbrokes bookmakers, said: “George has the patience of a saint, and his mammoth win really just shows that good things come to those who wait.
“We couldn’t be happier that he’s won a life-changing amount of money and we’re paying out with a big smile.”
