Prisoners in a British jail enjoyed a slap-up Christmas Day feast – including roast turkey with all the trimmings, Black Forest Gateaux, muffins, pork pies, cheese and biscuits and chocolate bars, it emerged today.
Lags at HMP Durham enjoyed a December 25 breakfast of Crunchy Nut Cornflakes and a festive dinner of roast turkey or Halal chicken, pigs in blankets, stuffing, potatoes and mixed vegetables.
The convicts then tucked into an evening meal of mushroom pie or chops, tuna and pepper or cheese and onion bap, muffin, crisps, satsuma, pork pie, bananas and a Kit-Kat Chunky.
Details of the Christmas menu at the Category C prison have been released under a Freedom Of Information request – and slammed by local residents.
Abdul Aziz, 20, a waiter, said: “These prisoners get the same stuff as me. It’s too much. I think when a prisoner is in for bad crimes then they shouldn’t get that much, even on Christmas.”
A spokesman for the Ministry of Justice said: “The cost of all meals for prisoners is included in food budgets which are allocated to prisons.”
