Poor employment record: Final moments for 60 sacked workers at HMV tweeted live

Struggling music chain HMV came under more fire today as employees at its HQ began tweeting job losses live – on its official twitter page.

Half a dozen messages were written on the @HMVTweets account in a damning blow-by-blow account of the sacking of more than 60 people.

One tweet read: “Just overhead our Marketing Director (he’s staying folks) ask ‘How do I shut down Twitter?'”

Within minutes the hashtag #hmvXfactorFiring was the top trending topic on the social networking site as hundreds of users reacted with sympathy to the former staff.

One of the @HMVTweets said: “We’re tweeting live from HR where we’re all being fired! Exciting!! #hmvXfactorFiring

“There are over 60 of us being fired! Mass execution, of loyal employees who love the brand.

“Sorry we’ve been quiet for so long. Under contract, we’ve been unable to say a word, or -more importantly – tell the truth.”

The tweets were posted on the official HMV account, before being hastily deleted

Before being hastily deleted a final ominous message on the account was posted, which said: “Under usual circumstances we’d never dream of doing such a thing as this.

”However, when the company you dearly love is being ruined. And those hard working individuals, who wanted to make HMV great again, have mostly been fired, there seemed no other choice.

“Especially since these accounts were set up by an intern (unpaid, technically illegal) two years ago.”

Twitter users praised the courage of the unknown former HMV employee who spread the news of the latest job losses to hit the chain, which went into administration on January 15.

Last month a prankster laid a bouquet of flowers at the foot of the statue of Nipper, the HMV dog, in Bristol

Aidan Dolan tweeted: “Well done to the person who had the balls to tweet about the staff being fired #hmvXFactorFiring”

Lee Beattie retweeted one of the posts from the HMV account and wrote: “When corporate Tweeting goes rogue”
