Police have issued a warning over ecstasy tablets marked with Olympic rings introduced by drug dealers in an attempt to cash in on London 2012.
The distinctive Class ‘A’ pills are all stamped with the five intertwining circles of the iconic Olympic logo.
Officers say thousands of the illegal tablets were made by dealers last year ahead of the games and are now flooding the streets of Britain.
The latest seizure saw 2,000 of the ecstasy tablets found on dealer Thomas Walsh, 24, on the Channel Island of Guernsey.
Walsh has now been jailed for six years after pleading guilty to possession with intent to supply the drug at Guernsey Royal Court.
Police and border agents caught Walsh with between 1,762 and 1,940 tablets – with a street value of as much as £39,000 – when they stopped his car.
A spokesman for the Guernsey Border Agency said: “We see all sorts of designs and logos on pills.
“Whatever is popular is what we usually see and obviously the Olympics was popular last year.”
Other symbols which have been found stam,ed on pills include the Nike swoosh and the Batman logo.
