Police were today handed a sock outside the house where Joanna Yeates disappeared – just hours after appealing for help locating one missing from her body.
Officers standing outside the home of both Jo, 25 and murder suspect Christopher Jefferies, 65, were approached by a respectable looking man at around 3.20pm.
The man, dressed in smart black trousers and a grey outdoor coat, spoke to a female Police Community Support Officer and held up a dark sports-style sock.
Detective Chief Inspector Phil Jones had asked for assistance in tracking a grey long ski sock – which was missing from Jo’s body when she was found – at around 10am yesterday.
The Police Community Support Officer quickly fetched a uniformed police officer, who escorted him into 44 Canynge Road using the entrance used by Christopher Jefferies, with another member of the police force.
Fifteen minutes later, the gentleman, believed to be in his 70s, was brought from the rear of the building and was walked out of the property and up the upmarket road.
He refused to comment on the sock and told reporters he had been told not to say anything by police officers.
