Police have launched an investigation after a charred body was discovered in a burnt out CAR near a train station.
Officers were alerted to the grim scene in Cradley Heath, West Mids., by firefighters at around 9.20pm on Saturday night.
The fire was so fierce that the identity of the deceased has not been established and a forensic post mortem was expected to take place yesterday.
Detective Inspector Warren Hines, who is leading the investigation for West Midlands Police, said: “This was an intense fire which all but destroyed the Peugeot 306.
“Once fire-fighters extinguished the flames they discovered a body inside the car.
“At this time we are yet to establish the person’s identity or the cause of their death which is being treated as unexplained.”
Police also revealed that a number of people had been spoken to in the local area and officers are trawling CCTV footage.
Anyone with information are asked to call police on 101 or contact the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 who will pass on the information anonymously.
