Police are investigating claims that a member of staff held a gun to the head of a terrified pupil – in a SCHOOL.

The man is alleged to have been joking with the male pupil in the common room before the mood turned sour and the adult threatened to kill the boy.

He is then said to have left the building and returned with a gun which he held to the youngster’s HEAD.

Another member of staff is said to have chillingly heard the man with the weapon say he had forgotten to check if it was loaded.

The man then walked out of the room with the gun with no shots being fired and no injuries reported.

One witness said they thought the weapon was a single barrelled shotgun, while another source said it may have been an antique gun.

Suffolk police yesterday confirmed that officers have spoken to a man in connection with the incident on March 4.

They are refusing to identify the school in Bury St Edmunds for legal reasons or the type of gun involved.

The school is one of nine of its kind in Suffolk which specialises in teaching pupils with emotional or educational difficulties.

A spokesperson for Suffolk County Council said: “We have been informed about an incident that allegedly happened at one of our education centres.

“The matter is currently being investigated by the police and as such, it would be inappropriate to comment further at this stage.”

Suffolk Police said: “We are currently investigating an alleged incident at an education establishment.

“A man has been spoken with in connection with the alleged offence and officers are liaising with the education authorities to ascertain whether any offences have taken place.”

Suffolk Constabulary yesterday  confirmed that a teacher took a decommissioned, antique firearm into Westbrook Tuition Centre in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, to show students.

The spokeswoman added that the teacher was given “words of advice” and voluntarily surrendered the firearm, but no charges were made.

She said: “Police were contacted by a member of staff at Suffolk County Council on Friday March 8, who had received information from students at an Education Centre in Bury St Edmunds that a teacher had brought a gun into a class.

“The same day, officers were dispatched to speak to the students concerned, who confirmed that an antique gun had been shown to students by their teacher.

“The teacher was visited by officers who searched his home address for any unlawful firearms and questioned him in relation to the alleged offence.

“A decommissioned, antique firearm was voluntarily surrendered to firearms officers for further inspection and words of advice were given to the teacher.

“Officers are in liaison with the school and the Education Authority and an investigation is ongoing.”

I would like to inform you that I am a student at this school and this guy was the best teacher any of us could ask for, he was there for us whenever we needed him and is the perfect role model he is also very easy to get along with and us students think this is a load of nonce! Ask any student we will all agree he is the best teacher we have ever met he never let us down with anything and never broke a promise!
