A 22-year-old who died after collapsing in front of 700 people in a packed pub was killed by a rare genetic condition, her family said.
Tragic Kirsty Thompson was found unconscious during an evening out with friends at the Walkabout bar in her home town of Plymouth, Devon.
She was found slumped on the dance floor shortly after police had been called to break up a fight between four men.
A post mortem has proved inconclusive but confirmed that Kirsty was not assaulted prior to her death and police are not linking the incident to drink or drugs.
Officers are not treating the death as suspicious and an inquest was opened and adjourned yesterday.
Kirsty’s family believe she may have died of Sudden Adult Death Syndrome – a rare condition which also killed her cousin Caroline Chivers, 25.
Her mum, Tanya, said: ”We saw Kirsty and there wasn’t a mark on her. One of her friends told me that she had collapsed on the dance floor.
”Kirsty had been to the doctors with chest pains several times over the years. This was so avoidable. I was tested and the results were non-conclusive so they wouldn’t test the children.”
Kirsty, who worked for Brittany Ferries, died shortly after collapsing at 9pm on Sunday during a night out with boyfriend Marc Couzens.
He said: ”She started screaming and the next thing I knew I turned round and she’d collapsed. She was the most fantastic person you could ever meet.”
Police say two 22-year-olds, a 23-year-old and a 20-year-old who were arrested at the scene have been bailed until June 30.
A spokesman said: ”The post mortem examination has been completed and, although the cause of death is inconclusive at this time, police are satisfied that it appears Kirsty has no injuries consistent with any assault.
”Following extensive enquiries, including a large number of witness statements as well as examining CCTV footage, police are not treating Kirsty’s death as suspicious at this time.
”As such, enquiries into how Kirsty died will in turn be handed over to HM Coroner.
”The four men arrested have been released on police bail until 30 June in connection with the fight which occurred in the pub. This fight is not thought to be directly connected with Kirsty’s death.”
A spokesman for Plymouth coroner’s office said an inquest has been opened and adjourned.
