A spirited pilot whose plane was grounded after ice formed on the wings managed to take off after de-icing them – with whisky.
The SAS plane was stuck in Alicante airport, Spain, because there was no de-icing equipment available.
But the quick-thinking captain raided the on-board booze cabinets and poured three bottles of whisky over each of the wings.
The whisky, with its high alcohol content, quickly defrosted the wings and, after a one-hour 20-minute delay, the plane took off for Norway.
Linda Apeland, who was on-board, said: “There was a good atmosphere in the plane.
“We were informed, amongst other things, that the whisky had been used up, so anyone wanting a drink on the trip had to make do with gin.”
