These stunning images capture a herd of around 100 deer swimming in unison across a river at the historic Chatsworth Estate.
Amateur photographer Jim Bell, 73, was taking landscape shots of the Derbyshire beauty spot when he spotted the animals gathering at the water’s edge.
He said: “I’ve never seen anything like it before, I couldn’t believe my eyes – there must have been at least 100 of them just running up to the water.
“They stopped for a second at the edge of the water, I packed my tripod up and moved my camera to get to the right place when I realised they were going to get in.
“I still couldn’t believe it when they all got in the water – they all just jumped in and swam across the river.
“I don’t know what they were running from! A few people have asked me, but I was the only one there that day, and I didn’t see anything on the other side.”
Retired engineer Jim lives with his wife Mary, 54, in Belper, Derbyshire, around 20 minutes from Chatsworth.
“I do believe I might have spooked them a little because they moved away afterwards, but I don’t know why they all came there in the first place,” he said.
“I really hope that at some point I see something like that again, there were just so many of them!”
