Palamedes PR has been appointed by Ben Hooper and the Swim the Big Blue expedition.
Hooper is attempting to swim across the Atlantic Ocean in under four months. The father-of-one will set off from Dakar in Senegal on 1 November 2015 – and hopes to reach Natal, northern Brazil by St David’s Day 2016.
If successful, he will go down in the history books as the first person in the world to have swam across an ocean in full, swimming every single mile of the 1,736 mile stretch of water.
Taking into account drift and tides, Hooper expects the final distance to be more likely to be between 2,000 and 2,500 miles.
He will swim freestyle for 12 hours a day in two six-hour blocks before sleeping aboard a boat overnight.
Sir Ranulph ‘Ran’ Fiennes, the celebrated British explorer, is the expedition’s patron.
Donations will support the expedition’s chosen charities: Plastic Oceans Foundation, Maggie’s Cancer Care Centres, Addaction and SOS Children’s Villages.
Hooper, who lives in Gloucestershire, has tasked the agency with raising the profile of the expedition on a national level.
Speaking yesterday, he said: “I’m really pleased to be working with Palamedes PR, and I look forward to a long and successful relationship with the agency.”
Anthony Harvison, of Palamedes PR, added: “For most people, the thought of swimming in open water for up to 12 hours-a-day – battling storms, huge waves, powerful currents and the very real danger of sharks and jellyfish – is the stuff of nightmares. But Ben, who self-effacingly describes himself as a ‘normal guy’, can’t wait to get started. As such, we wanted to do everything possible to help and support Ben in this gruelling record-breaking adventure.”
