A golfer with only one leg proved his injury is no handicap – by sinking a hole in one.
Brave Dave Ward, 47, lost his left limb in a plane crash in 1989 and took up the sport to aid his recovery.
He is now celebrating his ace on the 200-yard first hole of Wheathill Golf Course in Castle Cary, Somerset.
“I pulled out my eight iron, and was told the green goes from left to right,” he said.
“When I played, the ball touched down on the left, did a bounce and then rolled on into the hole. I wasn’t sure that it had gone in at first.”
Dave, of Plymouth, Devon, was a victim of the 1989 Kegworth plane crash when a Boeing 737 bound for Belfast smashed on the M1.
The disaster killed 47 people – including Dave’s his fiancee – and he lost his right leg below the knee.
He said: “It changed my life completely. My fiancee died beside me and I broke everything except my right arm, including my neck.
”I took up golf when I was able to get around and it has given me a different outlook on life.”
Dave – who has a handicap of 12 – scored his hole in one in a match organised by the British Limbless Ex Service Men’s Association
