A nine-year-old girl has been left scarred for life after her legs were “cut to ribbons” when she walked into a theme park’s MIRROR MAZE.
Little Olivia Ward was enjoying a day out at Wheelgate Park in Farnsfield, Notts., when a 6ft-high wall mirror shattered on top of her.
The attraction is described as “one hundred eyes watch as you step into the spaceship and become lost in mysterious passageways”.
East Midlands Ambulance Service rushed to the scene at 4.15pm on Tuesday (9/8) and took Olivia to Kings Mill Hospital where she had 20 stitches.
Graphic pictures of Olivia’s injuries show large shards of mirror embedded in her knees with her legs covered in blood.
Her mum, Zoe, 31, a cook from Nottingham, yesterday blasted the theme park for failing to ensure the mirror maze was safe.
She said: “She’s scarred for life.
“I wouldn’t have thought a children’s ride at a theme park would be capable of hurting someone like that.
“The glass panes were the size of a house door. Her legs were cut to ribbons.
“She ended up in A&E and it’s ruined the summer holidays for us.
“We were going to book to go away on the 26th, but we’re probably not going to now because Olivia won’t be able to enjoy everything.”
Speaking about the terrifying incident, Olivia said: “It really hurt. I couldn’t sleep because of the pain.
“I was walking maybe seven or ten steps and just hit the glass. It smashed just like that when I hit it.
“I’ve been inside all day and it’s already boring.
“I’m going to go to Skegness with my auntie but I won’t be able to do anything.”
Zoe has now called for the ride to be closed and vows to never return to the theme park.
She added: “As a parent, you want your children to be safe but this makes you worry.”
Zoe said she had been told the Martians Mirror Maze had been closed on Wednesday (10/8) following her daughter’s injury.
Staff at the 40-acre venue, which is also home to a farm and a water park, said there would be no comment from Wheelgate Park about the incident.
