Furious residents fed up with cold callers calling at their home erected a sign in the front garden threatening to shoot charity workers.
The sign, which was nailed to a tree in the front garden of a property in Heacham, Norfolk, states that all “Hawkers” and “Peddlers” will be shot on sight if they try to deliver charity bags.
It read: “WARNING NO ADVERTS BETTERWARE CHARITY BAGS ALL HAWKERS OR PEDDLARS (sic) WILL BE SHOT ON SIGHT.”
Philippa Sewell, Heacham Parish Council clerk, said the incident had not been reported to the authority but had become a police matter.
She said: “Whilst we understand how frustrating and sometimes alarming cold callers can be, a sign threatening to shoot people is really not appropriate.
“If somebody had come in to the office and complained about the sign we would have written to the resident to say that actually it is threatening.”

A spokesman for Norfolk Police said: “We have no record of this being reported to us at any time over the past three months.
“Now that we have been made aware we will investigate and take any action that is appropriate.”
