Animal lover Dr Sue Collard unwittingly bought the tiny dormouse, a breed which isn’t found in Britain, back with her from her holiday home in Normandy. The University of Sussex lecturer noticed the little critter attempting to eat a pear on the front seat of her Vauxhall Meriva ten days after she returned. Sue, of Hove, East Sussex, spent the next month trying to capture the stowaway alive and even started marking student’s exam papers while waiting for a home-made trap to work.
